Exactly there’s a podcast “true crime bullshit” where the host plays his interview tapes and essentially Isreal says the same thing, that he got sloppy. I don’t think he was tired of living rather than he didn’t want to live a life behind bars.
He initially gave up information on other murders that he committed for minimal media coverage(didn’t want his child(ren?) and wife to know) and also for an expedited death sentence. Eventually Keyes realized that he wouldn’t be getting the death penalty anytime soon as his crimes spanned the entire USA and even different countries (not that he admitted openly to killing outside of the USA) and that led him to slit his wrists and write on his cell wall with blood. I highly recommend giving true crime bullshit a listen if you like true crime but most episodes play the tapes of Isreal talking to investigators and let me tell you he is unapologetic and very matter of fact when describing his murders. All serial killers are their own biggest fans. I listened to the True Crime Bullshit podcast. I had a hard time believing a lot of the details Keyes gave in his interviews.I have a hunch that the couple in NY that he said he left in the farmhouse was his first time taking 2 adults at once. He barely had control of that situation.
I was pretty surprised that the investigators failed to take the upper hand in those interviews. They just let him blather on for hours.It’s scary as hell to think that there are more out there like him. Statistically there’s gotta be at least one of them that maintains the compartmentalization for his entire life and never gets caught. He was a narcissist piece of shit.

As a criminologist with a bowtie, you should have mentioned that there are a number of serial killers who were very well publicized for killing, if not eating, men. And popular media, TV, movie and novels like to use that as a surprise twist.And the Holloway case has been focusing on Caribbeans as culprits both black and white and mixed.
