I have the most recent version of spotify and the above lists didn't work. So i searched the internet and combined several lists. Removed duplicates. Testing nowedit update at 1:03p cdt - still playing audio ads. It is probably the spclient one that turns off the friends feed that does the streaming of the ads. Gonna take a break. So for the friend list problem.

We can't block the entire URL because the list is gone but if we don't we start to let adds in. Now ads and the list cant be on the same port, so we know that there must be at least 2 ports open on spclient.wg.spotify.com. To correct the problem with Artist page and radio you need to remove '127.0.0.1 spclient.wg.spotify.com' from the list, you will get a black banner at the border but without ads.EDIT: you have audio adsI also found the 'corrupted' line few minutes ago, but didnt noticed any audio ads yet.

Is there any reason why this line suddenly bugged out and can we expect a fix for the black bar (and audio ads if they really appear) soon?Edit: The line is fixed and works properly. No black banner and no audio ads anymore. No black banner and no audio ads anymore.audio ads didnt disappearI can only speak for myself. I use the list by srtod and only removed the line '127.0.0.1 open.spotify.com', since it used to crash my discord, when joining any music channels, where spotify links are posted. Works flawless. No black banner and no audio ads anymore.if i remove spclient.wg.spotify.com from the hosts file and when the ads kick in there will be 30 seconds of silence.

However if i don't remove that line from the hosts file i am not able to add new songs to my playlist. They will be synced to spotify servers so it appears on the web (browser) player but not on the desktop client. Im also not able to play new songs (songs that are not already on my playlist) on the desktop app if that line is not removedanyone knows of a better solution without removing 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' line from the hosts file?edit: the 30 seconds of silence is because i've installed spotifree previously. Without spotifree the spotify ads will play with 30 seconds of audioedit 2: adding back 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' to the hosts file and all the issues mentioned above (radio function, playing new songs, adding new songs to playlist etc) is fixed! Perhaps removing and adding back fixes everything.

Using spotify 1.0.92.390.g2ce5ec7d on OS X el capitan.edit 3: upon further testing removing and adding back 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' fixes radio function but im still unable to play new songs, add new songs to playlist from the desktop app.edit 4: radio function works, but im able to play new songs, add new songs to playlist from the desktop app but it only works for certain songs (about 30%).someone has a solution? Up to a few days, using the hosts list of this thread to block spotify ads was working fine. But recently, I started having a lot of songs that were blocked into spotify so I checked my host file and it appears I had to comment the spclient.wg.spotify.com redirection for these songs to play again. But doing so, I also now have audio ads back:(.So did anyone find a solution to block all ads without blocking access to some songs on the latest version of spotify desktop (windows)?Else, can anyone put a link to download the last version of spotify that fully worked with the hosts file blocking list? (so that I download it and block the update to the latest version if there is no solution for it for now).

Hello everyone, I've been trying to remove the ads with the hosts file method but I have several problems. When I try to install the normal Spotify desktop program (not the one from the Microsoft store) it will automatically change (?) to the Microsoft store version and basically the method provided is useless to me.Now the only thing left is changing the hosts file but I still get problems users such as have, where certain songs won't play or i cannot add songs to my list.Anyone can provide an updated hosts list or a different method? Thank you, everyone, for the thread alone! The only solution for completely remove ads changing the hosts file is to stick with an older version (I suggest 1.0.95.289) and block updates, because in the newest versions if you add 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' to the hosts file you block some songs (among other things, radio, social etc.), if you remove 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' from hosts file you have ads back, so the only solution for me on Windows for new versions (1.1.0.237) is the one suggested by, no ads, all songs playable, radio e social all perfectly working and no need to add anything to the hosts file.

Linux user here. Is there a.deb at a similar version lying around? I installed Spotify with snap on my machine and disabling updates seems to be impossible, so I don't believe rolling back to an older version would work. If there's a chance someone downloaded via the PPA and still has an older version. That being said Spotify's changed their TOS to ban people using adblockers starting March. So are we screwed anyway?Hard to say since nobody knows what will happen exactly or what they are planning to do regarding this matter. Manjaro - Arch here.So did anyone find a solution to block all ads without blocking access to some songs on the latest version of spotify desktop (Linux)? For now I believe to solve the problem temporarily is comment spclient.wg.spotify.com to load new songs and playlist and uncomment after. If I find one better solution I will paste here. That being said Spotify's changed their TOS to ban people using adblockers starting March.

So are we screwed anyway? If you believe that spotify will ban you, unfortunatly, I recommend one backup of your playlistto soundiiz)You can upload your songs in deezer, and after create one new accont in spotify making the inverse process (If we found some way to block this ads sucefully). I installed Spotify with snap on my machine and disabling updates seems to be impossible, so I don't believe rolling back to an older version would work. If there's a chance someone downloaded via the PPA and still has an older version.I'm on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I got my.deb from here:Currently using 1.0.92.390.g2ce5ec7d with seemingly no issues with songs not playing (with modified hosts file).

I'm going to grab a few more older versions just in case that changes. Just FYI, Mac and Windows users should try to delete the spotify cache folder, and denying access to spotify to that folder, it should work on all platforms but people should confirm. I can confirm it works like a charm on linux, and not having a cache folder is unnoticeable.:)I confirm. And, seemingly, you don't need to care of hosts anymore.Well, maybe you have to still block banners if they annoy by 0.0.0.0 spclient.wg.spotify.com rule.I left hosts file as I have had it for a few years when blocking the cache folder. Mac users, here's my solution for now, get this older version of and add the following in your hosts:No ads, but 'Go to songs radio' function not working(As I said If you add 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' in your hosts file you block some features like the one you mentioned, using old version can allow you to not have blocked songs but again, some features are unavaiable, the only way is to remove 'spclient.wg.spotify.com' from hosts file and find another way to prevent ads, like said, try to disallow writing in the cache folder. I'm on MacOS Mojave and I was able to fix the issue with certain songs not showing up.

My hosts file:. I downgraded Spotify to version 1.0.96.181, which can be downloaded here: (it seems that this is the last version of Spotify before the issue was introduced). I cleared my cache folder and prevented it from being written to.

The cache folder can be found at /Library/Caches/com.spotify.client and you can just delete every single file/subfolder in that folder to clear it. To prevent it from being written to, right click anywhere in the empty folder, click 'Get Info', and under the 'Sharing & Permissions' section, change the privilege setting of your account to 'Read only'. You'll know that you did it correctly if your recent searches are cleared every time you quit/reopen Spotify.I hope this helped anyone who's still looking for a Mac solution. Over the past couple of weeks I haven't come across a single song that was missing.

I've tried playing a lot of obscure songs that no one knows about (since they're usually the ones that have the issue) and they all showed up. The only problem is that I can't get the friends tab to show up. I'm on MacOS Mojave and I was able to fix the issue with certain songs not showing up. Ahoy mateys.I've had it working for quite some time after there nuisances from the ad blocks fiasco. Only applies to Windows. Downgrade to an older desktop version. Uninstall the Spotify (Windows store app) if you have it. Install the win32 Spotify 1.0.99.250 (it's an older major version release, hence I assume the code to not play music if ads aren't played is not part of it).

I also have the standard hosts above block applied, except the following line has been removed from the list: 127.0.0.1 spclient.wg.spotify.comI presume on Android, you could find an older APK (Feb/2019 release or before) and you can bypass there annoyance. Not sure about Apple.

Getting the same issue on Android as of today. Blocking the hosts on a rooted phone used to work well enough; now it stops loading anything a few seconds in. If anyone is interested - my current fix is to downgrade to 8.4.41.776.1, which resolves the issue, but you can't play loved songs unless if you start playing them from desktop first and let it sync.

Alternatively you can chuck all your songs into a new playlist. Not ideal, unfortunately. Anything past 8.5.3.716 (at least) seems to be affected by the 7 second bug. (feature?)You can download old APK's from and use to verify the legitimacy of any files if you're worried.Desktop Spotify still works fine for me though. Using version 1.0.92.390 with only hosts blocked and haven't experienced any problems. (aside from broken friend feed + radio, but that's nothing new. Gosh piracy is tiring).

Here's what I use for Windows. My weekly discovery and radar release stop working and some songs not playing correctly, I downgrade from 1.99.250 to 1.0.64.399 on Mac. Now my dynamic playlist is back.
